چکیده

Midkine (MK) is a heparin-binding growth factor whose gene has been identified in embryonal carcinoma cells in early stages of retinoic acid-induced differentiation. In the present study, we investigated the developmental localization of truncated MK protein in human bile ducts. Thirty specimens of the livers from 25 fetuses (from 9 to 40 gestational weeks) and from five neonates less than 4 weeks old were examined. Immunohistochemical analysis was performed using a mouse IgG2b monoclonal antibody against recombinant-truncated MK. Truncated MK was expressed moderately in the fetal liver from 9 to 15 gestational weeks. The immunoreactivities were found in the primitive hepatocytes, ductal plates, migrating biliary cells and immature bile ducts. The reaction products were localized in the cytoplasm heterogeneously. The intensity of immunostaining was weak from 15 gestational weeks to 26 gestational weeks. After 27 gestational weeks, truncated MK was not detected in the fetal livers. It was suggested that primitive hepatocytes, ductal plates and immature bile ducts produced truncated MK transiently during human bile ducts development.

A Study of the Anatomic Variations in Extrahepatic Bile Ducts in 50 Adults Referred to Kerman Forensic Medicine Organization

Anatomic variations in forensic extrahepatic bile ducts is common. Knowledge of extrahepatic bile duct variations is important for surgeons in order to prevent iatrogenic damage during surgery. This study aims to determine the variations in extrahepatic bile ducts among 150 cadavers located at the Kerman Medicine Organization. We performed autopsies on 150 cadavers. Bile ducts were exposed an...

Experimental Study of the Effects of Scolicidal Agents on Liver Bile Ducts

SUMMARY Scolicidal agents are used by most surgeons during operations for hydatid cysts when these agents are injected into the cys t cavity, they can pass through the communicating passages between the cyst and bile ducts into the large intrahepatic and extrahepatic bile ducts and because of their caustic nature, they have the potential to damage the epithelium of ducts. This epithelial da...

Altered expression of thioredoxin reductase-1 in dysplastic bile ducts and cholangiocarcinoma in a hamster model

Thioredoxin reductase 1 (TrxR) is a homodimeric selenoenzyme catalyzing thioredoxin (Trx) in an NADPHdependent manner. With regard to carcinogenesis, these redox proteins have been implicated in cell proliferation, transformation and anti-apoptosis. In the present study, using a hamster cholangiocarcinoma (ChC) model, we evaluated the immunohistochemical expression pattern of TrxR in precancero...

Cell Lineages and Oval Cell Progenitors in Rat Liver

We determined whether the formation of the hepatic primordium in the rat is associated with the expression of liver-specific markers. Fur ther, we examined the origin of intraand extrahepatic bile ducts and tried to establish whether there are cell types in the developing liver that might correspond to "stem-like" cells ("oval cells'1) that proliferate during carcinogenesis and toxic injury in ...
